Nontraditional Students Association Meeting Minutes

Old Business
1. Web Site
The Web site is live and in the A-Z directory. This will now be an ongoing responsibility with continuing updates.
2. Pizza Party Status
This is all set. Kat changed the order to Pat’s Pizza because Orono House of Pizza didn’t get back to her on time. Pat’s is more expensive, so fewer pizzas, but I believe we’ll agree the pizza is better.
3. Keepsakes for Nontraditional Student Graduates
Commuter and Non-Traditional Student Programs is taking care of this for us this semester. They have located pins with silver ribbons and will order 250 of them.
4. Graduation Breakfast
Commuter and Non-Traditional Student Program is also taking care of this.
5. Congratulations Ad in Maine Campus
Barbara sent out a notice is now collecting names. Kat will contact the Maine Campus office to secure the ad space and get the submission deadline.
6. Nominations and Elections of Officers
Nominations are now open and will continue until 4/12 at midnight. If there are any nominations, elections will begin Tuesday, 4/15. A ballot box, copies of ballots, and a sign in sheet will be made available in the Commuter Lounge for this purpose. If there are no nominations, officers will continue as is.
New Business
7. Family Room
Barbara mentioned that the Parents On Campus group has decided to use the rooms offered by the Alana Center. Kat will contact someone within the group about putting a link or information about these rooms on the NSA Web site.
8. Funding
Kat researched the funding issue for student clubs and found that the yearly budgeting process begins in February each year. In order to continue offering programs and services, we will need to request special consideration funds from Student Government or continue to make application to the Dean’s Fund. Kat will speak with Student Government to fully understand their funding process.
9. National Association
We took a moment to look at one of the national associations’ Web site. This one is Association of Non-Traditional Students in Higher Education (ANTSHE) at http://www.antshe.org. The membership cost is quite high, so we were wondering what membership benefits are available. At some point, we will investigate this more.
