Black Mountain, Donnell Pond, Public Reserve Lands

http://www.state.me.us/doc/parks/programs/db_search/index.html

The Donnell Pond reserve is a treasure, East of Ellsworth, Maine.  The land is managed by the Maine Department of Conservation, Bureau of Parks and Lands.Hiking Big Chief Trail, Black Mountain, Maine

The Big Chief trail up Black Mountain is a delightful place for a fall hike.  The trail starts through a classic example of the Acadian Forest type.

The views from this trail are spectacular, including views South to Acadia and East to Tunk Lake.

This is also a great spot to study some of your glacial geology skills.  A great resource for studying this is the Maine Ice Age Trail web site.
