Dorr Mountain in Spring
Spring time in Maine offers
lots of opportunity to explore the outdoors, and there is no place
better to do so than in Acadia
National Park. A fine hike for spring begins right off the
Park Loop Road a little over a mile from the auto road up Cadillac
Mountain. The trail leads to Sieur de Monts Spring and then to
The Tarn.

South from The Tarn the trail follows the valley
just East of Door Mountain. Wetlands along the left of the
trail were filled with spring peepers in late April. When you
read the South end of Door Mountain you can either head over to
Cadillac or up the South Ridge of Door Mountain, which we did this
day.
Dorr Mountain was named for
George B. Door, one
of the visionaries for whom we owe a debt of gratitude for Acadia
National Park.
Dorr Mountain has one of the finest stands of
pitch pine that you will see in Acadia, covering much of the top to
the mountain.

And of course the reward for your hard work
getting up the mountain is the view. You can look West to
Cadillac Mountain or East to Champlain Mountain. This view
below is looking Northeast.
