Lancaster Diary

15/11/04

Hi everyone,

Edinburgh, ScotlandSo far we are over half way through our first semester here in Lancaster and things seem to be flying by. Classes are still going well. We are in the thick of them now. Erica and I both have papers due on Friday and we are starting to talk about end of module exams. (Scary!) While we are still having a great time, we are kind of in a lull and are thinking about home. Unfortunately only 4 more weeks until we are home, but I can tell you I am definitely looking forward to my mom’s cooking. It will also be nice to know that I am returning to what I am familiar with. Everything will be done the “American way” which is by no means the right way, just the way I am used to!

Edinburgh, ScotlandI have decided to use up my free Tuesday volunteering at the Royal School for the Blind. I am spending my time with the 5 kids in the Bradbury house unit. None of the kids have verbal ability and 4 of them are in wheelchairs, so it is different from helping out with Nicola and Olivia. It is really fun and interesting however, finding new ways to communicate with the kids.

Last weekend we went to Edinburgh, Scotland. We arrived at around 1 in the afternoon (after I got carsick on the bus AGAIN…my stomach apparently can not take the eccentricities of the English drivers). We walked along Princess Street (the main street with all the shops), until we realized that they were all overly expensive (even Gap). We then found a pup to have lunch in and decided to take a bus tour around the city. In Edinburgh they have open top buses Bagpipe playerpurely for this purpose. We had a fun time and got to see more of the city than we would have on foot. We then visited some more shops until they closed around 6:30 and we got hungry. Our culinary destination of the night was none other than the Hard Rock Café. Erica, Susan, and I all bought t-shirts and had an excellent dinner topped by a decadent brownie Sunday that was big enough to be shared by all three of us.

Other than that, nothing too exciting has been happening. We have been hanging out, and getting some work done. Erica and I did however manage to fit in a trip to the cinema to see Bridget Jones’ Diary II on Thursday. For all you out there that like a good chick flick, we definitely suggest it!

I guess that’s all for now! I’ve included a few pictures of Edinburgh: one of a bagpiper, one of the Castle, one of the outskirts of the city, and one of inside the city. Check back later! J
