Two and a half weeks, and counting...

INT 475 has been meeting on Mondays to prepare for our trip to
Africa. Our group is made up of a wide variety of different people.
Most of us do not know each other at all but that will change. It
seems as if about half the class took this course with a good
friend, and half the class did it solo, much like myself. Either way
within a month we will know each other very well.
Aside from trip logistics (for example- 15 hour flight from Atlanta
followed by a 4 hour bus ride!), we have been spending each week
preparing our individual projects and learning about the ecology of
Kruger park. We have seen two slide presentations. The first
highlighted many of the defining stops and aspects from the class
two years ago that will be revisited again this year. This slide
show included many pictures of larger animals that you would expect
(elephants etc.) and many that you would not. The second slide show
focused on many of the birds found in Kruger. Kruger has a great
diversity of birds but is also home to birds that one can see around
the yards here in Maine.
The past two slide shows and a short video clip have really gotten
me (and the class) excited and I am now anticipating the trip very
much. For the past three years I have been wanting to travel, and
having never been over seas before -- I am very excited. The
excitement will continue to grow as Feb. 27th draws near. This
weekend I am going home to get my luggage! Check back as final trip
logistics are worked out, and as the class continues to progress on
our individual projects!
