Lancaster Diary

Jen, Donnah, Nicola and Olivia at the zooAlright, well a variety of things have gone on over here since our last entry. Last weekend Jen headed off to Liverpool to spend the weekend with Donnah and help her take care of some of the kids from the Royal School for the Blind. Unfortunately while there she somehow contracted tonsillitis and spent the next five days laid up in Donnah’s apartment. Fortunately, before she got terribly ill she did manage to have a bit of fun at the Chester Zoo, here is a picture of Jen, Donnah, Nicola and Olivia (Nicola is the older one, and Olivia is her younger sister).

I (Erica) on the other hand, stayed on campus and hung out with the girls in my corridor. On Saturday afternoon Caitlin and I went with Caitlin and Tim (hardcore football fans) to the Grizedale pub to watch the England versus Wales football (soccer) game. It was one of the qualifying matches for the 2006 World Cup. England won 2-0, and David Beckham scored a goal from 76 feet and then shortly afterward got a yellow card so he was suspended from Wednesday’s game (which England won as well). Saturday evening about 8 of us piled into my room to watch "Labyrinth," an early 90’s flick featuring Jim Henson puppets and David Bowie, odd film but seems to be a bit of a classic over here. On Sunday night we repeated the event though this time we watched "Something’s Gotta Give."

Susan and Erica at club ToastTuesday Jen finally returned from Liverpool, though very much under the weather. However it was our hall-mate Silvia’s birthday so a bunch of us went out to the club "Toast" for the evening. I can’t say I’m a huge fan of British pop, but it was a good time just the same. Here is a picture of Susan and me (Erica) at Toast.

This Saturday we’ll be heading off to the “very English” town of Kendal, which apparently has nice shops as well as the ruins of a castle built in 1100 A.D. So be sure to check back to see pictures from that trip. (For those of you following along our journeys, the intended trip to London has been scrapped and will be rescheduled when train times are more accommodating. Other planned trips so far are to; Snowdonia (National Park in Wales) next weekend, Edinburgh, Scotland in three weeks and at some point in between we’re going to head up to the Lake District for a picnic!)

That’s all for now.

Jen and Erica
