Lancaster Diary

Hello!

Well we're in week two back at Lancaster University. Now that our classes are underway we're beginning to think ahead. It's just eight weeks til our "Easter Holiday" where we have Erica's travel planning for spring breakfour weeks to spend traveling around Europe. Jen will be off to Japan for the first two weeks to visit a friend who's studying abroad there so Susan and I are planning our travels together.

So far we've decided we're going to Italy for the first week. Our travel guide recommended that for a week in Italy you should spend 3 days in Rome, 2 days in Florence and 2 days in Venice. We sifted through our guides to find out what sites we'd like to see. Susan was dead set on a gondola ride in Venice, however the Let's Go guide informed us that they run about 63 euro, which is about $84!! So we'll just have to be satisfied with watching the gondolas.

We're planning on hitting all the major Roman sites, especially the Vatican Museums. Luckily, many of the sites in Rome offer student discounts. Florence, however has the most museums, but they're more expensive and no student discount so we're going to have to narrow down which ones we want to see. Our guides gave us great ideas of things to do for free, and because a lot of the sites in Italy are buildings or statues, hopefully it won't be too expensive....

After our week in Italy, Susan is heading off to Spain to visit some of her French and Spanish friends. I haven't quite decided what I'm going to be doing yet, but I think I will probably head off to Ireland to visit our friend from UMaine, Jen Houle who's studying in Galway for the year. Then, I'll meet up with Susan back in Spain and we'll spend another week or so traveling around, seeing the sites. I'd also like to go to Paris and Prague. The last week of our vacation my sister is coming over and meeting me in Greece. She studied abroad in London her junior year and wanted to go to Greece but didn't have enough time. So we're going to go and spend 5 days in Athens and take in all the sites of Ancient Greece!

Erica and Jen's travel planning materialsA few of our other friends from UMaine are also planning on visiting us in England during their spring break! My former roommate Alia is going to be spending all two weeks hanging out in England, maybe we can take a trip to Paris too! Jen's former roommate Laura and her current roommate Lauren are planning on visiting for a week as well! Susan has friends coming from the States around that time too, so it seems like our corridor is going to be flooded with Americans!

Next week, three of our corridor-mates are celebrating birthdays. Jen and I are planning on making some cupcakes, Dave Scott style. So check back to see pictures!

Bye for now!

Erica and Jen
