New Dunham Scholarship Endowed

Erica Bickford, Julia McGuire, and Lauren Leclerc at a reception before the annual NSFA scholarship banquet.

The top scholarship in the Ecology and Environmental Sciences Program is the John F. Boyle Environmental Prize.  This award was endowed by the generous gifts from the family of John F. Boyle and gifts from faculty and graduates from the program.  The scholarship recognizes the top graduating Senior in the EES Program.

Those wishing to contribute to the scholarship endowment should direct checks to the University of Maine Foundation with a letter specifying the Boyle Prize endowment.

In 2004 the faculty in the Department of Plant, Soil, and Environmental Sciences generously funded three EES Merit Awards.  These Scholarships were awarded to Lauren Leclerc of Charlestown, New Hampshire; Julia McGuire of Augusta, Maine; and Brooke Halgren, of Devils Lake, North Dakota.

We are very proud of Brooke Halgren who was awarded a Morris K. Udall Scholarship Honorable Mention for 2004.

In addition, students in the program are eligible for hundreds of thousands of dollars in both need-based and merit scholarships offered annually by the College of Natural Sciences, Forestry, and Agriculture.  Students wishing apply for these awards should complete the college scholarship application by March 1 of each academic year.
