Lancaster Diary

Greetings again!
Here we are! In ENGLAND!!! I must confess I never
thought this time would come and it was quite surreal for me until
the plane touched down in Manchester Airport. Quite to my
surprise I ended up being on the same plane as two other UMaine
girls headed to Lancaster as well. It was nice to be in good
company! Every part of the plane journey was quite easy. Neither
of us had any trouble with our bags or getting through customs.
They just asked us a few benign questions, stamped out passports
and welcomed us to the country! I arrived in Lancaster a bit
after Erica and she took the shuttle to school while a friend of
mine from Liverpool picked me up. We are both in the same hall a
few doors down from one another. Pretty much every room on campus
is a single room and there are 10 girls in the hall we are in.
Here you can see a picture of Erica's room complete with a
washbasin. They are kind of small, but quite roomy once you make
it your own. The school gave us a few things like pots and pans
and CAT 5 cables (to connect to the internet) so that we didn't
have to bring it over ourselves. My friend from Liverpool (Donnah...you'll
probably hear about her a lot) also gave us each a duvet, some
pillows and some toiletries.
It is freshman orientation week here so everyone is
always at the pub. It is an interesting experience but we are quite
content to stay in at night or go to a movie or something in place
of going out to the bar. We've had a few pub crawls, a dress up
night, and last night we went to see the movie "Wimbledon" at the
local Cinema. We are about to go out to town now to look at some of
the shops with the rest of the girls on our floor so I'll sign off,
but this weekend we are going to visit Donnah in Liverpool so check
back for an entry on that trip! Cheers!
