The 4th Polar and Alpine Microbiology meeting was held in Ljubljana,
Slovenia and attended by Laurie. She presented a talk detailing
some of the ongoing work of the lab using Automated Ribosomal
Intergenic Spacer analysis as a tool to screen fungal isolates
from Anarctic soils [SEE

The meeting included sessions on microbial diversity and evolution,
permafrost and ecology among other topics. There was much discussion
of the impacts of climate change on sensitive polar and alpine
environments. For more information about the conference, visit
