[Other Misc Outreach]
The
Connell Lab is dedicated to helping further students goals and education
in the sciences. Laurie Connell has also worked with high school teachers
in Teachers Experiencing the Antarctic on several projects with the
goal of assisting teachers by participating in current research and
bringing their exciting experiences back into the classroom. Students
have participated in a number of programs including UMaine's Upward
Bound and K-12 Program that has provided opportunities to get involved
in the Connell lab research. Prior students have completed projects
related to Harmful Algal Blooms, yeast and fungi identification from
Vailulu'u seamount, clam sodium channel mutations and others.
The Lab has also worked with the National Park Service's "Partners
in the Park" program to provide a valuable outreach effort and
provide opportunities to explain the value of marine ecosystems and
on-going research efforts. Check out the links above to learn more about
outreach efforts and the various projects and programs that we have
been involved in. For more information, please visit the programs website
or contact Laurie Connell for more
information.
