Mathematics Classes
Overview
Onward Mathematics courses are designed
to give you the basic skills needed for success in future math courses
at UMaine and for many personal and professional situations as well.
Credit for these courses will not count towards your bachelor's degree
(except for ONM013, see note), but they do count for financial aid, and
all UMaine add/drop and withdrawal policies apply.
ONM 11: Pre-Algebra
Operations, including addition,
subtraction, multiplication and division, are reviewed and applied to
fractions, decimals, percents and basic geometry. Briefly introduces
signed numbers and simple linear equations. 3 credits.

ONM 12: Introductory Algebra
Topics include: graphing, writing and
solving linear equations (including fractional equations), solving
quadratic equations by factoring and by the quadratic formula, as well
as practical applications. Prerequisite: ONM 11 or permission. 3
credits.

MAT 111: College Algebra
Solving radical and quadratic
equations. An introduction to functions and their graphs, including
conics. Logarithms and inequalities are introduced. Applications are
stressed. Prerequisite: ONM 12 or permission. 3 credits.
