Activating your MaineStreet Portal Account

All students who apply to the University of Maine are assigned a MaineStreet account, your portal to Student Self Service information. You need to activate this account before you can activate and use any of your other UMaine online accounts. Be aware it could take up to 24 hours after activating your MaineStreet account for other accounts— such as FirstClass e-mail and the Math Placement Test— to be available to you.

To activate your MaineStreet account, go to http://www.maine.edu/activate_account. Enter your MaineStreet ID number and your activation key (sent with your acceptance letter). This will activate your MaineStreet ID. To use your MaineStreet account, go to the MaineStreet portal using the MaineStreet Quicklink (at the bottom of the page) at http://www.umaine.edu and enter your MaineStreet ID and password.

Activating your E-Mail Account
All accepted students are assigned a FirstClass e-mail account. FirstClass is the official e-mail system on campus. UMaine offices, departments and most faculty members use e-mail to communicate with students. Once you've activated your MaineStreet account, you need to activate your FirstClass account as soon as possible to receive important news relating to financial aid, registration and other student services. After you’ve activated your FirstClass account, go to http://www.umaine.edu/it/software/firstclass/ to learn more about FirstClass, download client software, or login using your browser to check your e-mail. For questions about activating any account, go to http://it.umaine.edu/support/firstclass/index.php or phone the IT Help Center at 207/581-2506.

Immunizations

Maine State Law requires that all full-time and degree-seeking part-time university students born after 1956 show proof of adequate immunization. You must show proof of two doses of immunization against measles (rubeola), mumps, and rubella given after (not on) your first birthday and after December 31, 1956. You must show proof of one dose of immunization against diphtheria and tetanus within the last ten years. Proof of immunization (a copy of your immunization records) may be sent or faxed to Cutler Health Center ahead of time. They may also be dropped off on Friday, January 11th from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the University Organizations Fair in the Memorial Union, or Monday, January 14th, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Cutler Health Center. If you need any of the immunizations, you may receive them at a cost from Cutler Health on Friday, January 11th, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Monday, January 14th, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. You cannot begin classes without them! Course registration cannot be completed until Cutler Health Center has verified proof of immunizations. For more information visit: http://www.umaine.edu/cutler, e-mail: rlmishou@maine.edu or call 207-581-4005. Records should be faxed to 207-581-3997 or mailed to: Attn: Immunization Department, The University of Maine, 5721 Cutler Health Center, Orono, ME 04469-5721.

Taking your Math Placement Exam

All students attending UMaine are asked to take the Mathematics Placement exam. Your results will be used by your college to place you in the appropriate course according to your demonstrated mathematical strengths and skills. To take the test you need to set up your WebCT account. To activate your WebCT account, go to http://webct.umaine.edu and click on the Log In button to log into WebCT. Enter your UMS user ID and password. The Blackboard Learning System will check your Internet browser to ensure it will work with the Blackboard environment. If your browser doesn’t pass the checks, instructions are provided on the Browser Check web page. The link for taking the Math Placement exam is displayed under the Course List in the center of the page. Click on the link to start taking the exam. If the link to your Math Placement exam does not appear, please try again in 24 hours before calling for assistance.
