Brown Bag Lunch Programs

The monthly Brown Bag Lunch programs engage presenters and attendees in informal opportunities designed to expand awareness and understanding of Maine’s rural past, present, and future. During this fiscal year, we are fortunate to have gained the financial support of several commercial sponsors whose contributions defray costs associated with the events. These sponsors are Pat’s Pizza of Orono, Foxcroft Veterinary Clinic, Griffin and Jordan, Attorneys at Law, and Tilton’s Auction House.

April 16 – “The Beef Industry in Maine,” with Cindy Kilgore, Maine Department of Agriculture technical advisor to livestock producer and liaison between agricultural organizations and the Dept. of Agriculture.

May 30 – “Caring for your Heirloom Textiles,’ with Susan Smith, Registrar, Page Farm and Home Museum.

June “The Revolutionary War in Maine,” with University of Maine Professor Liam Riordan.

History Fun Week

In past years, the Museum has scheduled a single “History Fun Day” during public schools’ April vacation. This year, the event is expanded to an entire week, with morning programs scheduled to run 10:00 – 11:30 each day, open to children from kindergarten through grade 8.. A small materials fee of $3.00 per child will be charged.

Themes to be explored are:
Monday - Churning butter, making soap or candles, and more.
Tuesday - Earth Day garden activities.
Wednesday - Farm Animals, and might even feature some surprise guests.
Thursday - Past Times Pastimes will explore toys, games, and other leisure activities of long ago.
Friday - Folk Art Day, with stenciling, wool spinning, and more.

Ongoing

The Page Farm and Home Museum Fiber Friends. This group of spinners, knitters, quilters, and handworkers of all kinds meets at the Museum every Friday afternoon and on the fourth Saturday of each month to celebrate and carry on needle arts traditions. All fiber enthusiasts are welcome to attend.

Wreath-Making Workshops

The Page Farm and Home Museum will hold its annual wreath-making workshops in late November, TBA, offering participants an opportunity to enjoy a hands-on start to the holiday season. Local free-lance landscape and garden designer, Claire Ackeroyd, (www.claireackroyd.com) who has been conducting wreath workshops at the museum for nearly 12 years, will offer both novice and expert wreath-makers the materials and instruction necessary to take home a decorative wreath to last for months.
