Communication
Skills
Face-to-face communication is key.
It's the best way to get across what you really are trying
to say. It should include:
Clarity and precision: Think about what you
really want to say, cover one idea at a time.
Body language and tone of voice:
How you say it is as important as what you say.
Use appropriate eye contact.
If too intense, it might make the other person
uncomfortable.
Tips for
good communication:
Use "I" statements.
Talk
in terms of yourself, not the other person.
Reflect feelings. Show
you are really listening and you care about what you're
hearing.
Avoid:
lecturing, making
fun, giving orders, giving too much advice, thinking of a
response while the person is talking.
Good
listening skills are required for good communication skills.
Focus on the speaker.
Avoid focusing on what you will talk about next.
Do not focus on your own belief system on what has been
said.
Avoid making judgments about the speaker or how things are
said.
Always ask for clarification when things are unclear to you.
