Marijuana
Street terms:
pot, mary jane, herb, weed, grass,
bloom, gangster, chronic, etc.
Effects of using: can stay in the body several days
to several weeks later. problems with memory and learning;
distorted perception (sights, sounds, time, touch); trouble
with thinking and problem solving; loss of motor
coordination; increased heart rate; cancers; weakened immune
system, etc.
Methamphetamine
Examples:
Crystal Meth & Yaba
Street terms: crank, crystal, glass, ice, fire,
croak, crypto, white cross, speed.
A single dose can stay in the body for up to two days.
Effects of using: rapid heart rate, irregular
heartbeat, increased blood pressure, irreversible damage to
small blood vessels in the brain, inflammation of the heart
lining, skin abscesses, decreased appetite, aggression,
paranoia, depression and irritability. Hallucinations and
delusions may occur with high doses. Mood disturbances,
kidney and other tissue damage, etc.
Opiates
Examples:
Opium & Heroin.
Street terms: junk, smack.
Effects of using: infections of the heart lining and
valves, skin abscesses, congested lungs, liver disease,
tetanus, serum hepatitis, withdrawal symptoms that can last
up to 10 days, etc.
Crack
& Cocaine
Crack is cocaine
that has not been neutralized to make the hydrochloride
salt.
Effects of using: dilated pupils, increased
temperature, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure,
heart attacks, seizures, headaches, gastrointestinal
complications, nausea, loss of sense of smell, nosebleeds,
problems swallowing, hoarseness, chronically runny nose,
etc.
Ecstasy
Effects of using:
increased heart rate, increased
body temperature, increased blood pressure, nausea, anxiety,
sweating, loss of appetite, irrational behavior,
hallucinations, insomnia, paranoia, depression, etc.
