"Over the years, the Memorial Gymnasium--once an impressive, beloved
facility that did for the body what UMaine's academic programs have
always done for Maine's students' minds--has suffered from a lack of
funds to maintain its utility, and to provide a primary-use facility for
our great basketball programs. It's that intimidation factor that we
hope to bring back to Black Bear basketball, and we certainly will be
doing that. That's all going to start to change with the Collins' next
gift: a $1 million gift to begin a major renovation of the Memorial
Gymnasium."
