Professor:
"So, we're excited the day has come. I think the state of Maine should
be excited too. It should be proud. This is a unique and strong Ph.D
program. There are few, if any, directly comparable programs in the
country.
UMaine President Robert Kennedy:
"We have partnered with six great Maine institutions, pooling resources
and sharing expertise to develop a collaborative program that can serve
our state and our students far more effectively than any institution can
do alone. By combining our intellectual resources, we have a faculty of
more than eighty researchers. This makes this one of the largest
graduate programs of its kind anywhere, and gives us the critical mass
necessary to develop great new scientists and to advance the frontiers
of modern science."
Governor John Baldacci:
"I'm so proud that the University of Maine has galvanized not just a
research triangle, but really the entire state in recognizing that we've
got to be collaborative; we can't do it all on our own in one place, but
we need to pool our resources. In recognizing the leadership of world
class research institutions like Jackson Laboratory, and many others,
we're building fully intergrated economic clusters based on our world
class strengths.
