Videos - Reunion Weekend
I've commented to some people that
Reunion Weekend, as we finish up the academic year, is something that we
look forward to so much,. Spending time with various reunion classes,
the senior alumni, the golden reunion class--there's just been so much
energy that I think we're going to be left behind with all the energy
that you brought to campus this weekend, and I can't thank you enough
for all the great time and the wonderful spirit that you've brought to
us this weekend. One undeniable and wonderful thing about Mainers is
their love for this great state, and we perennially lament that so many
of our young people leave the state for college, or if they stay in
Maine for college, they leave for jobs after graduation. Many of you
have heard me say after the past 2-3 years that our data indicates that
most of our graduates stay in Maine for their first jobs--around 70-80%
of our graduates each year stay in Maine for their first jobs, and about
40% of our out-of-state students stay in Maine for their first job. So,
as I told the class of '62 this afternoon, the University of Maine is
really a "brain gain" for the state of Maine.
