For automation and barcoding, postcards must be 4-1/4 inches x 6 inches. Smaller sizes cannot be automated.

Mailers, including postcards, should be designed to allow a 3 5/8 inch x 5/8 inch space at the bottom for postal barcodes. When designing your mailer, do not include content information in this area.

Postcard address panels are required to be 3 inches wide by 3 inches from the bottom of any type, to allow for both recipient address and barcode.

13-OUNCE MAIL RULE AS OF AUGUST 2007

Due to heightened U.S. security measures, stamped mail weighing over 13-ounces must be taken by the customer to a retail service counter of the United States Postal Service. Stamped mail weighing over 13-ounces dropped in collection boxes will be returned to the sender.

This change is part of ongoing security measures in cooperation with other governmental agencies to protect the safety of the public, customers, and postal employees.
