Printing and Mailing Services

Student Mail

The United States Postal Service (USPS) delivers student mail from the Hampden postal facility to Mailing Services where it is sorted, then delivered to mail rooms in each campus dormitory. Residence hall employees sort the mail into mailboxes assigned to students.

Packages delivered by USPS that are too large for a student mailbox will be held in the student’s dormitory mailroom, where the recipient student can retrieve it from residence hall staff.

Private Carriers
Packages delivered through UPS, FEDEX, or other private carriers, are delivered directly to student dormitory rooms. Students must be present to receive these deliveries, or make arrangements to pick the packages up from these companies.

Mailing Addresses
Mailing addresses are determined by the room and hall to which a student is assigned. A student assigned to live in Room 215 Hart Hall will have the following address:

Student Name
University of Maine
5733 Hart Hall, Room 215
Orono, ME 04469-5733

To ensure quicker delivery, include the 4-digit zipcode extension on all mail. For a list of all building numbers, please visit our building zips page.

USPS Substation
A USPS substation is located in the lower level of Memorial Union to meet the personal mailing needs of all students as well as University of Maine employees. This substation offers all USPS services including selling stamps, sending registered, certified, priority, and foreign mail.

Campus Mail
Inter-departmental campus mail service may be used by students wishing to send mail to professors, administrators, or other University personnel. Campus mail service may not be used to deliver individual student-to-student mail. Student-to-student mail must be handled via USPS.

Change of Address
Notify Student Records of your permanent home address. This is the address Mailing Services will use to forward all your first class mail until JUNE 15, 2008. AFTER THAT DATE, ALL REGULAR MAIL WILL BE RETURNED TO SENDER.

Summer 2008 Update

**If you failed to contact Student Records prior to leaving campus, you are still required to update your address with that office. You MUST then follow up with an e-mail via your First Class account to Tammy.Young@umit.maine.edu so our office has your new address on file.**

Notify all your regular correspondents of your address change. Besides your friends and family, don’t forget to notify your magazine subscriptions, credit card companies, banks, etc. of your address change. Notify all independent carriers of your address change. Expecting a package? Fed Ex, UPS and DHL will need to know where to deliver your package.

PRESORTED AND NON-PROFIT MAIL WILL NOT BE FORWARDED.

For more information about student mail, visit the Residential Life Web site at, http://www.umaine.edu/rlp.
