Clean Sweep
As residents pack up and move out,
GCI
has collection areas set up in convenient areas in each residence hall for
unwanted books, clothes, electronics, appliances, household items and non-perishable food.
Unopened, non-perishable
food is donated to the Black Bear Exchange on campus.
Items in
good condition are sold as a fundraiser.
Items leftover after the sale are donated to the Black Bear Exchange. Any items
not
sellable are disposed of appropriately through UMaine Resource Recovery.
Items such as computers that contain heavy metals and other
toxic
materials
are dismantled
and
recycled under Maine
law.
Green Loan Fund
The Green Loan Fund, in partnership with
the University of Maine Foundation, was established
to provide funding for innovative
campus-wide
conservation and sustainability initiatives. |
