Sanitizing Program

The Property Management Housekeeping Staff Only use department approved cleaning and disinfectant products, and follow the current recommended Center for Disease Control (CDC) UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS when performing the cleaning and disinfecting processs in public restrooms and community shower and bathing facilities.

Reducing the Spread of Viruses

Students and staff should follow the recommendations of the Maine Center for Disease Control by:

• Covering your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or sleeve.

• Washing your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol       based hand cleaners are also effective.

• Trying to avoid close contact with other people who are sick.

• If you get sick with flu or other flu-like symptoms, limit contact with others to avoid infecting them.

Methicilin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus

MRSA is a drug-resistant staphylococcus bacteria that is resistant to many of the antibiotics normally used for Staph infections.  It can be found in schools, homes, dormitories, gyms and where people congregate.  You can prevent the spread of MRSA by doing the following:

• Keeping wounds that are draining or pus-filled covered with clean, dry bandages and closely following your health care provides instructions on proper care of the wound.

• Washing your hands often with soap and warm water, or using sanitizers that are effective with  MRSA.

• Not sharing personal items such as towels, washcloths, clothes, undergarments, uniforms,  combs or razors that may have come in contact with a wound or bandage.

• Keeping in touch with your health care provider and telling them if you have, or have had a MRSA skin infection.

• Following instructions about avoiding areas that have been disinfected and sanitized because of contact from a MRSA infected person.
