The Presidential Research and Creative Achievement Award
Nomination Form


President Kennedy has agreed to continue the Presidential Research and Creative Achievement Award for 2007. This award is made to a faculty member who has attained distinction in research or creative achievement. The award is presented at the Honors Convocation.


Nominations should be submitted to the Faculty Research Funds Committee, c/o Gayle Anderson, 443 Corbett Hall, on or before March 19, 2007.

Criteria of Excellence

The following information should be included with the nomination form. The nominator is encouraged to work with the nominee to prepare a complete application.

  1. Current Vita
    Vita must include: a) educational background (institutions, earned degrees, dates); b) professional background, and c) published books, publications in refereed journals, juried exhibitions, musical performances, or other creative works.

  2. Contributions to the Profession
    This should include service to a professional society, editing or reviewing for a professional journal, and any research citations or awards.

  3. Contributions to the University
    Prepare a statement regarding the impact of the nominee's research program on the Department, College, and University with respect to research productivity, attraction of external funding, faculty collaboration, graduate programs, etc. Add any pertinent supportive comments not covered above.

  4. Evaluations
    Nominators should provide three letters of reference from individuals outside the University of Maine who can evaluate the major research contributions of the nominee. These referees should be qualified members of the nominee's discipline or of a closely related discipline and of national and/or international stature; credentials of the referees, not to exceed two pages, should also be provided by the nominator. In addition, up to three letters of support from persons inside the University may be included with the nomination.
