The Provost’s Faculty Advisory
Committee permits direct and regular communication between the
faculty and the administration of the University of Maine. It is
solely a communication vehicle and will not have any official
function. It will enhance communication by:
· Providing
a forum for faculty to seek clarification on issues of concern,
including those which circulate through informal networks.
· Providing
the administration with an informal communication vehicle with
interested faculty members and an opportunity to address and
correct misinformation in a timely way.
· Providing
the administration with advice and a sounding board.
ProFac membership was originally
chosen from the following categories:
-
1
college dean (selected by the Provost)
-
1
department chair (selected by the Provost)
-
1
research director (selected by the VP for Research)
-
1
representative of Cooperative Extension (selected by the
Provost on the recommendation of the Dean/Director of
Cooperative Extension)
-
16+
faculty representatives (selected from a pool of peer
committee nominees to provide balance across the
institution).
-
1
member of the Senate executive committee selected by the
Provost from among recommendations by the Senate President.
-
The
Associate Provosts for Undergraduate Education and Graduate
Studies are ex officio members of ProFAC.
Subsequently, the President and
President elect of the Senate have been added and the Senate
will provide additional nominees. Current members are Ed
Ashworth, Steve Barkan, Sandra Sigmon, Sandy Berkowitz, Jack
Burt, Jim Acheson, Adrienne White, Greg White, Scott Johnson,
Crista Schwintzer, Bill DeSisto, Nancy Fishwick, Stephanie
Welcomer, Susan McKay, George Jacobson, Louise Cyr, Carol Toner,
Bob Rice, Kornfield, Jim Gilbert, and Dianne Hoff. Ex-officio
members are Sue Hunter and Dan Sandweiss.
Because ProFac does not have any
official function beyond communication, minutes are not kept.
