EDNA MORA SZYMANSKI, Ph.D.
Edna Mora Szymanski is the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at the University of Maine. She received her bachelor’s degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, her master’s degree from the University of Scranton, and her Ph.D. degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
Prior to coming to Maine in August 2006, Dr. Szymanski served for 7 years at the Dean of the College of Education at University of Maryland, College Park. Before Maryland, she served for 10 years at the University of Wisconsin – Madison in various capacities including Professor, Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education, Associate Dean of the School of Education, and Director of the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Career Development and Advancement. Before pursuing doctoral education, Provost Szymanski served for 5 years as a rehabilitation counselor and 6 years as a counseling unit supervisor in upstate New York. The counseling unit specialized in school to work transition for students with disabilities.
Provost Szymanski’s major areas of scholarship have focused on disability and career development, rehabilitation counselor education, and research instruction. She has authored or co-authored numerous refereed articles and book chapters and received several national awards for her research, including three from the American Counseling Association, three from the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association, one from the American Association of Counselor Education and Supervision, and one from the National Council on Rehabilitation Education.
