Psychological Assessment
A variety of psychological assessment services are provided,
including intellectual, achievement, personality, and diagnostic
can be provided for children, adolescents, and adults.
Psychotherapy
The most frequently provided service at the PSC is psychotherapy.
A variety of approaches to intervention are utilized, although
most PSC supervisors have a cognitive-behavioral orientation.
Individual therapy for children, adolescents, and adults
is available, as well as couple therapy.
Consultation
The PSC provides consultation on mental health issues to a
variety of agencies in the greater Bangor area. Consultation
services include assessment of individuals and recommendations,
staff training, program evaluation, and others.
Continuing Education
The PSC sponsors continuing education for mental health service
providers in the form of workshops and seminars.
Specialty Clinics
The Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Clinic
The Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder clinic provides
comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for children,
adolescents, and adults. Following an initial screening,
we offer a diagnostic assessment package that includes a
three-hour structured interview with parents and information
from multiple sources, as well as a comprehensive report
and feedback session. The Psychological Services Center also
specializes in behavioral treatment of Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder. We do not offer medication, but consultation
with prescribing physicians is available.
Forensic Assessment Clinic
This specialty clinic provides assessments for a variety of
forensic concerns, including sexual offending, violence risk,
and fire setting, as well as treatment, residential placement,
and disposition recommendations. Adolescents, adults, and
families can be assessed at various stages throughout the
court process. Parental competency evaluations also are provided.
Body Dysmorphic Disorder Clinic
Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is a psychological disorder
in which individuals are extremely distressed by a perceived
flaw in appearance. The Body Dysmorphic Disorder Clinic offers
comprehensive assessment and cognitive-behavioral treatment
for BDD-related concerns.
Anxiety Disorders Assessment, Treatment, and Research Center
This clinic encompasses a series of research studies that offer
cognitive-behavioral treatment for several anxiety disorders.
Currently, the clinic is studying cost-effective methods
of delivering treatment for panic disorder, as well as client
variables associated with positive and negative treatment
outcome of panic disorder.
How do I receive services at the Psychological Services Center?
The Psychological Services Center provides services to the
general public. Anyone interested in services can call the
clinic secretary at 581-2034.
A professional referral is not required. For children’s
services, the parent or legal guardian of the child must make
the appointment. Adolescents interested in services may contact
the Psychological Services Center themselves but parents or
guardians must provide written consent Fees
The fee for the
initial interview is $10.00. For psychotherapy, we use a
sliding fee scale to determine the fee for future appointments.
The scale ranges from $10 to $45 per hour depending on your
income. There are separate fee structures for the specialty
clinics and for some assessments.
