12343 PAA 520:  Policy Studies
Examines approaches to the study of public policy such as public choice theory, implementation analysis, systems analysis, and impact analysis as they are applied to policy areas such as health, welfare, education, and criminal justice.  Students participate in seminar discussions and complete a research project.  Prerequisite:  Graduate student or permission.  Cr. 3.

12351  PAA 655:  Nonprofit Organization Management
Surveys the nonprofit sector in the U.S., its structure, history and values, role in the economic system, and selected public policy issues.  Prerequisite:  Graduate student or permission.  Cr. 3.

12896  MES 520:  Maine Politics and Policy
This seminar examines contemporary issues confronting the state and the politics that surrounds them.  Particular attention is given to Maine's role in national affairs, its unique political environment, political parties and elections, the dynamics of the legislative, executive and judicial branches, the structure and operation of local governmental institutions, including regional governance, and the formulation and administration of state and local policies, especially taxing and spending policies.  This course will meet the Area I:  Management of States and Localities requirement for MPA students.

SESSION 15 - May 15 - August 25

PAA 493 Public Administration Internship*
Professional experience in state government, non-profit agency, healthcare agency, etc.  Some opportunities exist through the Maine State Government Internship Program. Open to selected students.  Reports and readings required.  No more than six credits of internship or field experience may be taken during a semester.  No more than six credits may be used toward the departmental major and no more than 12 credits may be used toward graduation.  Cr. Ar.

PAA 495 Municipal Government Internship*
Professional experience in local government.  Reports and readings required.  Major within the department may not receive more than a total of 12 credit hours toward graduation for any combination of internships and field experiences and not more than 6 credit hours may be used toward the departmental major.  Cr. Ar.
