Chief March is the Director of Public Safety for the University of Maine in Orono, Maine where he is responsible for a full-service community-policing agency of 35 employees providing around the clock law enforcement, parking, transportation, security and communications services to the students, faculty, staff and visitors of the University. As the former Director of the Maine Community Policing Institute (MCPI) he has continued on as a Senior Facilitator and Board Member for MCPI. He is a sought-after presenter and consultant in the topics of community policing, customer service, public relations and strategic leadership. His professional background includes consultation and training engagements with PERF, IACLEA, the IACP, the COPS Office, the U.S. Department of Justice and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Additionally, his work has been featured in Police Chief magazine, FBI National Academy Associates magazine and Law Enforcement Trainer magazine. A decorated veteran of law enforcement in Connecticut and Maine, he has held the ranks of Patrol Officer, Drug Unit Supervisor, Chief Deputy Sheriff and, in addition, he was a member of the 2002 Winter Olympics Police Force in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. March has also distinguished himself as an accomplished marketing executive as a former Assistant Vice President with MBNA America Bank, a leading Fortune 500 corporation. He is a graduate of the 170th session of the FBI National Academy as well as the University of New England, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Organizational Leadership.
