October is National Crime Prevention Month
|
The University of Maine Department of Public Safety would like to
remind you of a few crime prevention and personal safety tips:
- Always lock your residence door, regardless of how
long you plan to be gone.
- Never open your door until you know who is there.
- Do not leave personal items unattended -- anywhere!
- Walk in groups or with a friend whenever possible,
especially at night. call 581-WALK for an on-campus
escort if needed.
- Use well-lighted and well-traveled routes when
walking.
- Know the locations of the emergency callboxes (blue
light phones).
- Be suspicious of unknown persons loitering or
checking doors in your resident hall.
- Be cautious about sharing personal information with
anyone.
- Watch your drink, do not trust anyone else to watch
it for you.
- Don't drink from punch bowls.
- Don't accept free drinks from strangers.
- Watch out for your friends at social events.
- Always lock your car and take your keys with you.
- Store valuables out of sight in your car.
- Lock your bicycle or lose it!
