LEED Posters - What is LEED?

What is LEED?
LEED is the nationally accepted U.S. Green
Building Council benchmark for the design, construction, and operation
of high performance green buildings. LEED promotes a
whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in
five key areas of human and environmental healthy: sustainable site
development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and
indoor environmental quality.
Green building practices can substantially
reduce the negative environmental impact associated with buildings.
Green buildings can help reverse the trend
of unsustainable construction activities.
Green design also helps reduce energy use
and operating costs, improve occupant productivity and well-being, and
create a sustainable community.
What impact can one building and you
have on the environment? More than you might think.
Students can help the Student Recreation
and Fitness Center reduce its carbon footprint by participating in the
recycling program, using the appropriate toilet flush and bicycling or
utilizing the BAT buses to commute to the building.
The UMaine Student Recreation and Fitness
Center meets or exceeds these LEED qualifications.
