Wes Jordan, former UMaine Athletic Trainer:
"It's something that's been a dream for years. It's something that's badly needed."
O.J. Logue, Associate Dean for Academic Services:
"Wes has wanted to see this facility be built, and he was extremely humbled when he was approached with a naming opportunity."
With fundraising efforts in their final stages, all systems are a go for the Wes Jordan Athletic Training Education complex to be built. The timetable for construction is for groundbreaking this spring and the center to be ready in early 2006.
This 70,000-square-foot facility will be located in the basement of Lengyl Gym. The space was formerly the women’s locker room. Not much to look at these days, but within a year this space will house a state-of-the-art sports training facility that will be among the best in the country.
O.J. Logue:
"We are going to be the first higher education program in the country to be using this facility for research purposes, and we're very excited about that. I think the student athletes and future athletes will benefit from the knowledge they gain here."
When complete, the complex will contain three labs, two large classrooms, two locker rooms and administrative office space. The convenience of being all in the same building is a major advantage for students.
Lee Elwell, UMaine Junior:
"You can sit down and learn the information from the text book, walk across the hall, learn how to apply it and apply it with your peers. Just being able to do that without having to wait, without having to borrow equipment, just having everything at your fingertips, is going to enhance the education so much--to have classrooms and lab settings within a stone's throw of each other."
Nationally recognized as one of the outstanding trainers in the land, Wes Jordan’s legacy will live on forever in this outstanding facility.
