Text-Only Version

Eric Carlsen, New Media Major:

"You can make it sort of your own smaller experience and feel like you fit in. I'm very interested in things like film, graphic design, computer science, art, and it kind of pulls all those things together and gives you an opportunity to explore all of them. I've discovered a number of other different areas which I hadn't quite considered originally, such as computer programming, Web design, and graphic design.

"I immediately try to get myself involved in a wide range of activities and groups on campus and organizations. In the fall, I auditioned for University Singers, and that's a group made up of about 70 students or so, singing choral music. Then, once you're in that group, you have the opportunity to try out for the [Maine] Steiners or Reinaissance.

"I think I'm going to definitely continue with New Media and see where that leads me, and maybe check out some of the other programs around campus. I think you're really doing yourself a disservice if you don't check out all there is to offer around campus. If you're going here and you live in-state, it's a great way to save money but still get a good education."
