
Retiree Homecoming Fair

| The 2009 University of Maine Retiree Homecoming was a great success. As always, The Wells Conference Center provided a comfortable and spacious backdrop for the fair. Rosemary Bamford, Secretary of the Retiree Council opened the event with a welcoming address on behalf of Council Chairman Harold 'Brownie' Brown who was not able to attend. President Kennedy welcomed friends and colleagues. Vice President of Academic Affairs & Provost, Susan Hunter also cordially welcomed attendees and gave the State of the University Address. | ![]() |

The 2009 Barbara Hikel Award recipient was Henry “Hank” Metcalf. This award is given in memory of University of Maine retiree Barbara Hikel, in recognition of her long, devoted, and exemplary volunteer service to the University after retirement. Since his retirement, Hank has served and is continuing to serve on numerous committees and boards of directors of organizations which directly impact the day-to-day operations of the University and surrounding communities. Congratulations, Hank! |
| Dr. Habib Dagher gave a marvelous presentation, “Maine’s Place in the New Energy World”, which was enthusiastically received by the audience. Everyone was sincerely grateful for Dr. Dagher taking time out of his busy schedule to tell us about the potential for energy saving by using wind power. Habib and the Advanced Engineering Wood Composite Center at The University of Maine is at the exciting forefront of wind energy technology. |

After lunch some lucky winners recieved door prizes of a 30-day gym membership, books, gift certificates,t-shirts and more.
