2010 Retiree Homecoming Fair
June 1, 2010

President Kennedy

The 2010 Retiree Homecoming Fair was another success.  Although the weather was not so “fair” outside, a good time was had by all. This year Harold “Brownie” Brown was the Master of Ceremony and started things off by introducing President Kennedy who was in attendance to present the State of the University Address.

As always, tables lined the conference rooms and beyond and provided folks with the opportunity to learn more about the various activities on and off campus as well as volunteer opportunities.

Hikel Award
Dr. Anne Lichtenwalner, President Kennedy, Rudy Hikel

The 2010 Barbara Hikel award recipient was Dr. Michael Opitz.  This award is given in memory of University of Maine retiree Barbara Hikel, in recognition of her long, devoted, and exemplary volunteer service to the University after retirement. Since his retirement is 2003, Mike continues to lend his expertise in the University of Maine Animal Health Lab and assists the lab with collaborating on publications and mentoring the laboratory staff.  Mike is never too busy to assist with a case or helping students.  In fact, the day he was to receive his award, he volunteered for a project and was not able to accept his award.  His nominator, Dr. Anne Lichtenwalner, accepted the Hikel award on his behalf.

This year we had the privilege of having Joe Carr, Director of University Relations as our guest speaker
