Welcome to the First Year Residential
Experience
The university of Maine fully recognizes the challenges
facing first-year students transitioning from high school to
college and will support students in dealing with these
challenges by placing them together in a supportive, enriched
and vibrant community. By doing so students will be better
equipped and prepared to deal with the academic rigors, social
pressures, and now opportunities available at the flagship
institution in the University of Maine System. FYRE will
proactively and intentionally provide first year students with
programs, resources and services so they may be academically
successful, experience personal and social growth, be equipped
to become responsible global citizens, and be well prepared for
their future here at UM and beyond.
Community Living On Campus
Living
on campus at the University of Maine is a Learning experience. We
work to help students gain leadership experience, community
awareness, and of course, academic achievement. Supporting the
academic mission of the University of Maine is a task the
Department of Residence Life does not take lightly. Our goal is
to provide students with the tools they need to make the most of
their academic experiences at The University of Maine, and
opportunities such as the living learning communities promote
academic success.
The Fall 2008 communities offer a host of great
experiences for students on campus. Feel free to contact the
Office of Residence Life for more information.
