What is the Hall Governing Board (HGB): The HGB is student council of the individual residence halls. The HGB works with the residence hall staff and ROC to present programs and events, and to encourage students to involve themselves in campus issues and events.
Who is part of the HGB: Every residence hall has a group of elected students who comprise the executive board of the HGB. However every on campus student is automatically a member of the individual HGB. This means that every student has the right to attend meetings, vote on issues, and present items for hall discussion Who is on the Executive Board: The executive board are a group of students who have been elected to the positions listed below. This group should meet every week with the hall advisor (the resident director) to plan the meetings and discuss items related to upcoming hall business. In addition, manuals are available for the following positions: Some halls decide to use different methods of executive boards. Some choose to have co-presidents or an executive committee made up of five or six people alternating positions. Non-Voting Members: Many halls find it very beneficial to invite the Resident Director or Resident Assistants to the Executive Committee meeting to maintain contact with the staff about hall issues, problems, or events. The RD is also the advisor of the group. What does the Executive Committee do? The President holds the Executive Committee meetings. Elected officers will then plan HGB meetings, set goals, and discuss any problems or issues that need to be looked into. This preparation can help the committee run smooth and effective HGB meetings. When are HGB members elected? For the current election timeline, see the HGB Elections page. When should the Executive Committee meet? It is effective if the Executive Committee meets between each HGB meeting. It is best to choose a meeting time that fits everyones schedule and stick to it. The Committee should meet weekly to discuss issues being raised at ROC Programming Committee and General Assembly meetings. This is a time to find the true opinion of the HGB and of the hall. All HGBs have a constitution that, when updated, should be sent to the ROC office to be filed. If anything here conflicts with your constitution, go by your constitution. |
