Rugby originated in England when a student, bored with the no-hand rule of soccer, picked up the ball and ran free from conformity. That was in 1823. Today rugby remains the untamed rebel of sport.

Since invading UMaine in 1997, women's rugby has enticed many adrenalin addicts to join in the pad-deprived, bone-crushing, mud-bathing fun. Through rugby, a new athletic culture of pride, friendship, and frolic is forging a place in the hearts of student athletes and their fans.
