Manuscripts Invited

In an effort to recognize quality publications,the Society for Asian and Comparative Philosophy will on occasion sponsor panels at APA, AAS, or AAR meetings on books published in the last three years in the field of Asian and comparative philosophy. We have a number of publishing authors among our ranks, so I am confident that we can easily find the talent to organize many such discussion groups.

Those interested are encouraged to contact me about their book topic, possible venue, and names of potential reviewers. One copy of the authorís book will be required. I will then work with Program Chair David Burke to schedule the panel.

Society members are also encouraged to recommend books for this purpose. Send inquiries to SACP President Bina Gupta at guptab@missouri.edu.

Manuscripts Invited

The East-West Center and Stanford University Press announce a new series that addresses contemporary issues of policy and scholarly concern in Asia and the Pacific.

The series focuses on political, social, economic, cultural, demographic, environmental, and technological change and its related problems.  Preference is given to comparative or regional studies that are conceptual in orientation and emphasize underlying processes and to works on a single country that address issues in a comparative or regional context.  Although concerned with policy-relevant issues and written to be accessible to a relatively broad audience, books in the series are scholarly in character.

New Journal Announced

Broome Community College, State University of New York announces the creation of a new journal of philosophy--  Aristoi: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Philosophy, edited by Patrick M. O'Neil, Associate Professor of Humanities and Social Science; email oneil_p@sunybroome.edu.

The book review editors of the quarterly journal of comparative philosophy-- Philosophy East and West --are always interested in expanding the pool of potential reviewers. The Committee on Human Development of The University of Chicago invites electronic reaction to and participation in its ongoing "After Postmodernism: A Report."

The organizers write that "Our purpose is not agreement but a new discourse. Small intimate conferences on specific points are now being planned."
