Women's Health & Fitness Day
Wednesday, September 27 from 10am-4pm in the Memorial Union.
Local organizations throughout the U.S. are participating in this unique national program that focuses attention on the importance of regular physical activity and health awareness for women.

National Women's Health and Fitness Day is on Wednesday, September 27th. UMaine and the Old Town-Orono YMCA have partnered to offer some fabulous events to celebrate this day! Attached is a copy of the schedule. Please distribute freely and encourage people to attend the events. For each event attended, participants can enter a raffle for some great prizes including free massages and free personal training sessions! All events are free and open to anyone! Purple Ribbon Campaign to End Domestic Violence (month of October)
In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Safe Campus Project and Spruce Run will provide purple ribbons to wear, pledging to become more aware and spread the word of the issue.

The purpose of the campaign is to:
- remember all women who have died violently or continue to live with abuse;
- raise awareness of the far-reaching effects of violence against women;
- remind each other of the help and services available to those who need it.

Take Back the Night UMaine 2006!
Thursday, October 12 @ 6pm on the Fogler Library stairs.
This is an evening for UMaine to join together in unity showing support for victims of sexual violence and those working to end the cycle of violence. We invite you to become part of the solution, part of the end to sexual violence. Here is a place to take a stand, a place to break the silence. Here, at UMaine, we can Take Back the Night.

Young Women's Health: From the Birth Control Patch to Chlamydia to the HPV Vaccine

Join us as we explore the newest in birth control methods and technology. Face the facts, recognize the symptoms, and learn how to protect yourself from the most common sexually transmitted infections. Finally, participate in a discussion regarding the moral, medical, and legal issues surrounding the new HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) vaccination.

This workshop will provide information on what is currently known about lesbian health. As well as a history of the lesbian health project and its activities. There will be an open discussion about growing up and living in a homophobic world and how it affects us physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Take Matters Into Your Own Hands

Roberta will lead an interactive discussion focusing on self breast exam, clinical breast exam and the value of regular mammography.  She will explain the difference between routine screening and diagnostic mammogram's and give a brief overview of technology available to aid in early detection of breast disease.

Women's Health and the Environment:  The Chemicals in Our Lives

Many things in your home from the creams you put on your face, to the pans you cook with and the water bottles you drink from contain untested, unregulated chemicals.  Chemicals that can end up in you when you use the product.  This workshop will inform participants about the presence of unnecessary toxic chemicals in common consumer products and strategies we can all engage in to eliminate these household hazards.
