Women's Health & Fitness Day

Local organizations throughout the U.S. are participating in this unique national program that focuses attention on the importance of regular physical activity and health awareness for women.
National Women's Health and Fitness Day is on Wednesday, September 27th. UMaine and the Old Town-Orono YMCA have partnered to offer some fabulous events to celebrate this day! Attached is a copy of the schedule. Please distribute freely and encourage people to attend the events. For each event attended, participants can enter a raffle for some great prizes including free massages and free personal training sessions! All events are free and open to anyone! Purple Ribbon Campaign to End Domestic Violence (month of October)
In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Safe Campus Project and Spruce Run will provide purple ribbons to wear, pledging to become more aware and spread the word of the issue.
The purpose of the campaign is to:
- remember all women who have died violently or continue to live with abuse;
- raise awareness of the far-reaching effects of violence against women;
- remind each other of the help and services available to those who need it.

This is an evening for UMaine to join together in unity showing support for victims of sexual violence and those working to end the cycle of violence. Women's Health and the Environment: The Chemicals in Our Lives
Many things in your home from the creams you put on your face, to the pans you cook with and the water bottles you drink from contain untested, unregulated chemicals. Chemicals that can end up in you when you use the product. This workshop will inform participants about the presence of unnecessary toxic chemicals in common consumer products and strategies we can all engage in to eliminate these household hazards.
