Melcmac Foundation Grant
Upper Kennebec Valley High School in Bingham, Maine, received a planning grant from the Melmac Foundation. Valley has received this grant for the past 4 years. The purpose of the grant is to raise student aspirations and increase rates of college enrollment. Safe Campus has been a collaborating partner with Valley High School since 2005. One aspect of the grant program is a project called "Innovative Learning Experiences" in which students are exposed to a variety of college and cultural settings through week-long trips throughout the New York and New England region.

Katie Flood, Guidance Counselor at Valley High School, and Carey Nason, Coordinator of Safe Campus, who are also both UMaine alumnae, have lead the "Innovative Learning Experiences" trips for the past 3 years. They look forward to leading a college tour of Maine this year. For more information about the Melmac Foundation, please visit www.melmacfoundation.org and for more information about "Innovative Learning Experiences", please contact Katie Flood at floodk@sad13.com or Carey Nason at Carey_Nason@umit.maine.edu.
