Maintenance and Security of Campus Facilities The University has a very strong commitment to maintaining a safe level of exterior lighting. A formal survey was recently conducted of the lighting on campus and it was found that parking lots, pedestrian walkways, and building exterior lights are well positioned and provide adequate illumination. Police Officers and Security Guards routinely survey existing lights and recommend maintenance of the existing lights and additional illumination, as required. Members of the campus community are encouraged to report any exterior lighting deficiencies to the Department of Public Safety at any time by calling 581-4040 (3-1-1 on campus). Police Officers and Security Guards also survey and routinely report security problems with doors. This also is given high priority. If the problem represents a security hazard, a maintenance person is immediately called in to make necessary repairs or adjustments. Exteriors doors on campus buildings are locked and secured each evening. Security Guards check administrative and educational buildings throughout the night. Police Officers check the doors to the residence halls frequently during the hours of darkness. |
