Integration of Experiential Learning Activities
in Care of Older Adults
Susan Ellis-Hermansen (Instructor and Learning Resource
Coordinator) and Ann Sossong (Asst. Professor of Nursing)
will purchase simulation kits, board games, and a model to
help integrate gerontological nursing content into existing
courses. For students to fully appreciate the experience
of aging and how this impacts delivery of nursing care, they
need experiential learning, which this grant will add to
several required nursing courses, affecting at least sixty
students a year. Educating the next generation of nurses
to be knowledgeable about aging is especially important in
Maine, which has an aging population and a shortage of highly-trained
nurses.
