Can I Pursue Other Interests?
Engineers can pursue lots of other interests
both at college and after graduation. Many engineering students earn minors
in business administration, physics, and mathematics, to name a few. Engineering
students are eagerly sought by the Naval Reserve Officer Training program
(Navy and Marine) or the Army Reserve Officer Training program. Many engineers
couple engineering courses with activities in music, hockey, football, theatre,
and languages. All engineering students take courses in general education.
After graduation, engineers often serve
on local government, planning boards, civic organizations, scouts, religious
organizations, recreational clubs, and so on. Engineers fly their own planes
and sail their own boats. Dancing, fishing, skiing, canoeing, running, music,
and building cars are all hobbies pursued by engineers. Good salaries, reasonable
vacation time, and enviable employment benefit packages allow engineers to
enjoy their hobbies, families, and off-work time.
