Creative Design at CAD Camp

"I thought the camp was extremely fun. I've been to a lot of sports camps before, but none as fun as this one. I really enjoyed the different things we created using the CAD program and the recreation activities."- Matt - CAD Camper CAD Camper climbing

Camper Arrival, Departure, and General Information

We think you are going to find your week at camp very educational and a lot of fun! The instructors for the computer modeling and the recreation counselors have a lot planned for your five days here at UM. (You can print this information using the "Printable Downloads" link to the left, or print from this page.)

ARRIVAL: Plan on arriving between 3 and 5 pm on the Sunday camp opens.

Most resident campers will take Exit 193 (previously Exit 51) off Interstate 95 to get to campus. Follow the signs toward Old Town and then turn right onto College Avenue at the light by McDonalds. Once on College Avenue and near the University please follow the signs posted. The drop off point is Hancock Hall and the signs will direct you to the correct location. Staff will be on hand to greet you.

Commuter campers should also come by Sunday afternoon to get familiar with some of the site locations and to get their weekly schedule, including drop-off and pick-up times and locations. Commuters who are not able to come on Sunday should arrive between 8:00 and 8:30 Monday morning at Boardman Hall Room 318.

PICKUP AND CLOSING BARBECUE: We invite families to a barbecue at the MaineBound Adventure Center from 3:00 – 5:00 on the Friday afternoon that your camp closes. Please be ready to leave campus by 5:00 Friday.

PARKING: A parking pass for drop-off, pick-up, and closing barbecue accompanies this confirmation package.

If you are bringing a vehicle to leave for the week on campus, you will need to get a parking pass from Public Safety after you arrive. Drivers will have to leave their cars parked until they leave camp Friday.

WHAT TO BRING: Resident campers – Comfortable clothes for the week, including outdoor gear for canoeing and climbing, rain gear, swim wear, and extra shoes including some you won’t mind getting wet. A bathrobe or loungewear is handy for the dorms. Sunscreen, sun glasses, toothbrush, comb, soap, shampoo, small circulating fans can help at night in the dorm rooms in hot weather. You can pick up snacks on your meal card but bring your favorites if you like. Bring no more than $50 for bookstore or vending purchases.

Commuter campers - bring either a lunch or lunch money daily, a backpack with extra shoes, a change of clothes, a towel, and if swimming or canoeing is planned a bathing suit.

MEDICATION: If you have allergies or other medical conditions make sure you have your medication and let us know about it and where you keep it.

EMERGENCY CONTACTS: If a parent has an emergency and needs to contact the camper, from 8:00 - 4:30 UM Campus Recreation at 581-1794 will field calls. The 24-hour campus dispatch number is 581-4040. We will make every effort to provide an emergency phone list at the beginning of camp.

DAILY SCHEDULE: Resident campers will start with breakfast at about 8:00. At 8:30 half the campers will proceed to the computer laboratory, and the other half will participate in the recreation activity for the day. At noon they'll gather again for lunch. At 1:00 the groups will switch with half going to recreation and the other half going to the computer laboratory. At 4:30 campers will return to the dorm then proceed to dinner. Evenings will offer open computing time, tours of campus engineering facilities, movies, swimming a the campus Wallace Pool, or other activities. Resident campers return to their rooms at a "reasonable hour" as determined by the counselors.

COMPUTER ACCESS: The computer lab has internet connections so if you have web based e-mail you can send and read messages prior to class or in the evening during open computing hours. Please leave your computer games at home. Staff will not allow the use of single or multi-user games with violent or offensive content (our call on what’s violent or offensive).

REMINDER: Registered campers will be sent a confirmation package with the most up-to-date information. Please return the signed copies of the UNIVERSITY OF MAINE RECREATION PROGRAMS, MAINE BOUND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK STATEMENT and UNIVERSITY OF MAINE RECREATION PROGRAMS, MAINE BOUND ADVENTURE CENTER CONTRACT. Both the camper and the parent must sign the forms.

REGISTRATION DEADLINES: Registrations are accepted through June 27, 2008. Cancellations received after June 6, 2008 will not be refunded. Cancellations received before June 6, 2008 will receive full refunds minus a $20 processing fee.
