Camper Arrival, Departure, and
General Information
We
think you are going to find your week at camp very educational
and a lot of fun! The instructors for the computer modeling and
the recreation counselors have a lot planned for your five days
here at UM. (You can print this information using the "Printable Downloads" link to the left, or print from this page.)
ARRIVAL:
Plan on arriving between 3 and 5 pm on the Sunday camp opens.
Most
resident campers will take Exit 193 (previously Exit 51) off Interstate
95 to get to campus. Follow the signs toward Old Town and then
turn right onto College Avenue at the light by McDonalds. Once
on College Avenue and near the University please follow the signs
posted. The drop off point is Hancock Hall
and the signs will direct you to the correct location. Staff will
be on hand to greet you.
Commuter
campers should also come by Sunday afternoon to get familiar with
some of the site locations and to get their weekly schedule, including
drop-off and pick-up times and locations. Commuters who are not
able to come on Sunday should arrive between 8:00 and 8:30 Monday
morning at Boardman Hall Room 318.
PICKUP
AND CLOSING BARBECUE: We invite families to a barbecue
at the MaineBound Adventure Center from 3:00 – 5:00 on the
Friday afternoon that your camp closes. Please be ready to leave
campus by 5:00 Friday.
PARKING:
A parking pass for drop-off, pick-up, and closing barbecue accompanies
this confirmation package.
If
you are bringing a vehicle to leave for the week on campus, you
will need to get a parking pass from Public Safety after you arrive.
Drivers will have to leave their cars parked until they leave
camp Friday.
WHAT
TO BRING: Resident campers – Comfortable clothes
for the week, including outdoor gear for canoeing and climbing,
rain gear, swim wear, and extra shoes including some you won’t
mind getting wet. A bathrobe or loungewear is handy for the dorms.
Sunscreen, sun glasses, toothbrush, comb, soap, shampoo, small
circulating fans can help at night in the dorm rooms in hot weather.
You can pick up snacks on your meal card but bring your favorites
if you like. Bring no more than $50 for bookstore or vending purchases.
Commuter
campers - bring either a lunch or lunch money daily, a backpack
with extra shoes, a change of clothes, a towel, and if swimming
or canoeing is planned a bathing suit.
MEDICATION:
If you have allergies or other medical conditions make sure you
have your medication and let us know about it and where you keep
it.
EMERGENCY
CONTACTS: If a parent has an emergency and needs to contact
the camper, from 8:00 - 4:30 UM Campus Recreation at 581-1794
will field calls. The 24-hour campus dispatch number is 581-4040.
We will make every effort to provide an emergency phone list at
the beginning of camp.
DAILY
SCHEDULE: Resident campers will start with breakfast
at about 8:00. At 8:30 half the campers will proceed to the computer
laboratory, and the other half will participate in the recreation
activity for the day. At noon they'll gather again for lunch.
At 1:00 the groups will switch with half going to recreation and
the other half going to the computer laboratory. At 4:30 campers
will return to the dorm then proceed to dinner. Evenings will
offer open computing time, tours of campus engineering facilities,
movies, swimming a the campus Wallace Pool, or other activities.
Resident campers return to their rooms at a "reasonable hour"
as determined by the counselors.
COMPUTER
ACCESS: The computer lab has internet connections so
if you have web based e-mail you can send and read messages prior
to class or in the evening during open computing hours. Please
leave your computer games at home. Staff will not allow the use
of single or multi-user games with violent or offensive content
(our call on what’s violent or offensive).
REMINDER:
Registered campers will be sent a confirmation package with the
most up-to-date information. Please return the signed copies of
the UNIVERSITY OF MAINE RECREATION PROGRAMS, MAINE BOUND RELEASE
FROM LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK STATEMENT and UNIVERSITY
OF MAINE RECREATION PROGRAMS, MAINE BOUND ADVENTURE CENTER CONTRACT.
Both the camper and the parent must sign the forms.
REGISTRATION
DEADLINES: Registrations are accepted through June 27,
2008. Cancellations received after June 6, 2008 will not be refunded.
Cancellations received before June 6, 2008 will receive full
refunds minus a $20 processing fee.
