liked the mix of computer and outdoor activities
that were available. The scheduled was flexible so the
entire group could enjoy the program. The environment

Creating Designs at CAD Camp
Girls
who have created designs at CAD Camp have loved
it! Their interests have run from no prior interest in computers
but willing to try, through plans to study interior design, to
applying to colleges to study naval architecture and mechanical
engineering. Some jump right into the recreation activities, a
few prefer just to watch. All have found fun new friends. But
don't take my word for it - here are some of their words!
"This
week has been one of the best camp/learning experiences I've ever
been able to enjoy. I'm not only walking away with much more knowledge
of computers, CAD, engineering and recreation activities, I'm
also leaving with new friendships, a new campus and class view
of UMaine, and the links to the people here who may be able to
further assist me in my future." - Natalie
"This
week has been amazing. Our counselors constantly told us to "think
outside the box" and to challenge ourselves. In every aspect
of this past week, my comfort zone boundaries have been questioned
and, for the most part, tossed aside." - Lina
"I
learned a lot about CAD and was able to create such things as
a juice bottle, a picture of my head on a 3D ball, and a guitar."
- Courtney
"I
am thrilled that I had an opportunity to get acquainted with the
CAD program because there is no CAD program at my school. I intend
to go to college for interior design and I need to know how to
use the program for college." - Ashley
"I
have had an interest in engineering for a long time, and the camp
gave me an idea of some of the many things that engineers do.
I learned a lot about the CAD program, and over the past two years
that I have attended this camp, I have been able to make more
and more creations using it." - Jennifer
"Having
this camp on the college campus was also nice. I got to go on
some tours and learn about different kinds of engineering."
- Veronica
"CAD camp
was a great place to meet people and learn. When I first came to camp, I wasn't very
good with computers, but there was always someone in the computer room who could help
me figure out the program. The staff was very knowledgeable and available for help.
Each afternoon, we had a fun activity. We used the ropes course, rock wall, kayaks,
and canoes. Also, we got to go swimming and use the low ropes course for team building
activities. Everything we did presented a new challenge and provided a safe environment
to overcome it. I'm thinking about the University of Maine as well as a few other colleges.
I'm interested in architectural engineering, psychology, and elementary education. CAD camp
was a lot of fun and well worth the money. The dorm environment was a great place to
stay and it was nice to know that if I come to UMaine, I will know my way around and that
the food will be great and recreation easy to find. I would recommend this camp to anyone
who wants to have a great time and maybe learn a little about design while you're waking
up in the morning!" ~Allie, CAD camp 2003-2004
"1. The food was delicious. you got to choose whatever you felt like having. it wasn't "mystery meat"
2. It wasn't all about computers. The outside activities livened up the day. There was work and play.
3. Getting to try new things and meet many new people.
4. The atmosphere was nice. You felt safe but not like there were overly-strict parents watching your every move.
5. The counselors are great. And the instructors are cool, they try to make the program easy learning". - Christine
