| "Dear
Sponsor, I understand that you helped sponsor
the CAD Camp at the University of Maine. I wanted to
thank you greatly for your help and support. I never
knew that you could make such realistic pictures and
views with a computer program. I made a view that was
very lifelike and had my own sense of style."-

The
University of Maine is partnering with individuals and businesses
like yours to offer an opportunity to girls and boys entering
grades nine through twelve to be introduced to computer modeling
in a summer camp environment. The College of Engineering is hosting
the sixth annual Creative Design at CAD Camp
at UM from July 6-11, 2008.
The
goal of Creative Design at CAD Camp is to encourage
participants to consider careers related to technology. Campers
will spend half days creating three-dimensional models using the
engineering design platform "MicroStation" and half
days in team-building recreation activities.
The
camp is designed to appeal to all campers, including the girls
and minorities who might not consider engineering or engineering
technology career fields.
Will
you please sponsor a camper to learn about Creative Design at
CAD Camp?
From
sponsored campers:
"Dear
Sponsor, I would like to thank you for sponsoring me for CAD camp.
I had a lot of fun using the CAD software. I am thrilled that
I had the opportunity to get acquainted with the CAD program because
there is no CAD program at my school." - Ashley
"I
didn't know what CAD was when I was filling out the forms to come
here for the week. But once I got here, it was fun and I'm going
to take it for a class when I get back to school." - Sammy
(a girl)
CAD Camp strives to subsidize all campers and also to reach out to underrepresented and disadvantaged populations through scholarships. Our camp budget this year is $27,500 for 40 campers, costing $725 per resident and $500 per day camper. These costs are prohibitively high for many Maine families.
We
have worked hard to recruit a number of companies, individuals,
and public entities to contribute toward camp scholarships. Please
consider joining the State of Maine Department of Transportation,
Bath Iron Wroks, Eastern Maine Community College, Symmetry Systems,
James Sewall, H.E. Sargent, the Maine Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Bentley Systems, Inc., and others by becoming a camp sponsor.
