Computer Policy

In the School of Engineering Technology, our undergraduates benefit from being part of a technology-enhanced learning community. Our faculty have trained on innovative software packages and introduce them to students as part of their classes. Students then have the capability to use those packages on their personal computers during or outside of class. All students entering in fall 2009 will be required to have a notebook computer that meets our hardware and software requirements. You may purchase your notebook from your preferred vendor or you may choose to take advantage of our negotiated packages through the University of Maine Computer Connection. We're excited to offer you this flexibility. In turn, it's your responsibility to select a unit that meets or exceeds the following system specifications.

Recommended system requirements
    * 3.0 GHz Intel or AMD processor
    * 2.0 GB of system memory minimum
    * 80 GB hard drive
         Support for DirectX 9 graphics with:
          256 MB of graphics memory (minimum)
    * DVD-ROM drive
    * Audio output

Choice of operating system is optional, but we highly recommend one of the following:

Windows XP Professional SP3
Windows Vista
Mac OS X

We highly recommend a wireless card (802.11b/g/n) to take advantage of our wireless campus network.
