Hearsay (Rumors)

We always enjoy hearing from alumni. Please drop Knud Hermansen a note to let SVT faculty and other alumni know what you are doing.

The hearsay is listed in the order it was heard, not necessarily the order that the events occurred.

He left Skanska to return to Maine  as a Party Chief running small boundary surveys for ROW land acquisition in Connecticut for Connecticut Light and Power . He also was involved in llarge scale construction layout in the energy sector for pipelines in West Virginia and transmission lines in Maine. For the past six months he has been overseeing all survey operations for MPRP, which includes over 400 miles of transmission structure layout. He brought Jeff Broumas back in September after a short hiatus to help out with more demanding clients. Jeff Broamas is now serving as a party chief as well as an office technician.

(There are only about 40 well-functioning land systems in the world.)

Dan Oakes (2010) was hired by SGC as a survey tech and was sent to northern NH and worked on preliminary site work for the Granite Reliable Power Wind farm near Errol NH. The next job was as Party Chief. He was responsible for construction stake out on the KIbby Wind Farm. He spent his first summer as an alumni in the middle of western Maine setting and re-setting grade stakes. After the completion of the Kibby Wind Farm project he worked on a couple other Wind Farms staking clearing limits, pole locations, wetlands (on top of mountains in February in at least chest deep snow), and so on. Last April (2011) he was sent down to northern NJ to fill the role of a Data Tech on a construction pipeline project for about seven months. He didn't do much work with actual field data. Rather, he dealt with review of field practices. He made sure field notes were completed correctly, reviewed time sheets, kept up on redline drawings of the project, and answered any questions the client had. When he was first sent down to NJ he did not have any direction of what to do, he just kept an open mind and thought of what needed to be recorded and what the most efficient way of doing so. After the completion of the Pipeline in Northern NJ he came back to Maine only to do a little more traveling. He went to various parts of Colorado laser scanning gas valve assemblies with Chris Michaud (2002). Dan and Chris also went to Arizona and did laser scanning of a 20 Acre compressor station. Laser scanning is a powerful tool and SGC is currently pushing this tool towards many clients. He is now in PA filling the role of a survey supervisor on the restoration process of a pipeline. He plans to come back to Maine in June to work on a 7-mile pipeline that is going to construction.
