General
THE FIELD PRACTICUM Field Education is designed to provide students with an opportunity to integrate and use their academic learning in a practice setting. We believe that each student brings to the field experience unique abilities, learning styles and career goals. In addition, the learning experiences available in each agency differ. In recognition of all of these variables each student at the University of Maine participates in an individual educational survey prior to entering field. Individualized attention is given to each student during a collaborative process to identify and locate a unique field practicum. Although most students are placed close to home, some students look for placements in locations that specialize in the field of practice they are studying. Summer block placements are available for selected MSW students in their advanced year who can optimize their education from an intensive experience or who select to travel nationally or internationally to complete their placement.
